J. Kent Staffing, a Denver staffing agency has worked with recent college graduates in their quest for that first entry-level, professional, career opportunity in non-technical fields since 1979. Needless to say, throughout the past three decades, our Denver Staffing Managers and Recruiters have experienced many different job markets and they recognize the job challenges faced by recent college graduates when the economy contracts. Contracting markets such as we have seen between 2008 – 2011mean fewer good jobs especially for those non-technical majors.
J. Kent Anticipates More Job Opportunities for Recent College Graduates in Non-Technical Fields
Given the most recent loss of jobs in the U.S. as a result of the Great Recession (about 8.8 million at its lowest point, February, 2010), well paying, full-time entry-level jobs for college graduates have been in short supply, especially for liberal arts majors. During this period the unemployment rates have been generally higher for those in non-technical fields of study, such as:
- Arts - 11.1%
- Humanities and Liberal Arts - 9.4%
- Social Science - 8.9%
- Law and Public Policy - 8.1%
J. Kent Staffing Expects Continued Upward Movement in Q1, 2012 Results
Although the recovery is still a bit sluggish at this point, J. Kent expects to see recent college graduates gain more access to work. As this occurs unemployment rates in these non-technical majors should drop over the next year. As reported February 1, 2012, J. Kent experienced a significant increase in hiring in January 2012 over January 2011 and we are expecting the continued upward movement to show in our Q1 results. This is also good news for non-technical majors.
Denver Employers Still Demand “Complete Package” For Professional Entry Level Jobs
At J. Kent our Recruiters and Researchers work hard to identify entry-level jobs for recent college graduates and hopefully there will be more opportunities as the private sector continues to add jobs. It is important to keep in mind, however, that Denver employers still demand the “Complete Package” for professional entry-level jobs.
