J. Kent Staffing – Volunteering in our Denver Community!

Posted by: Karen Booher on May 3rd, 2024

J. Kent Staffing is proud to have employees who are active volunteers in the Denver community! In the spirit of last week’s National Volunteer Week, we want to highlight and share some of our staff’s recent volunteer activities.

Geena Toscano, Recruiter/Staffing Manager

On April 24th, Geena spent the day volunteering at the Denver Zoo, making enrichment activities for the animals to keep busy with. She assembled tissue paper toys (see main photo) for the birds to play with and tear apart.

One highlight of Geena’s day was meeting Willow (photo on right), a Three-Banded Armadillo, who is 7 years old and in the zoo’s dating program. Willow is looking for her future mate!

Did you know that the Denver Zoo has 550 volunteers?

On April 26th, Geena got her hands dirty with Denver Urban Gardens (DUG)! DUG has operated in the Denver metro area since the late 1970’s and now has about 200 community and school-based gardens and 20 food forests across six local counties. Geena’s group of volunteers weeded garden plots for members of the community surrounding Spencer Garrett Park in Aurora.

Did you know that over 50 languages are spoken within the communities that use DUG plots?

Reean Waddle, Accounting Manager

Reean (top row, far right in photo) has been a long-time volunteer with A Precious Child (APC) and joined forces in March with other volunteers and Discovery Toys consultants to fill thousands of plastic eggs with candy and other goodies and pack Easter baskets. Over two full days, hundreds of beautiful baskets were assembled that contained age-appropriate Discovery Toys, an age-appropriate book, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and other gifts.

Recipients of these festive baskets are children and families served through A Precious Child, a Broomfield-based organization that provides services for families facing life challenges such as abuse, neglect, crisis situations, and poverty. APC works with more than 500 Agency Partners throughout 8 counties to identify children and families in need of their services. Discovery Toys consultants have partnered with APC in growing this Easter Basket Campaign and are extremely grateful for all of their volunteers!

Did you know there are more than 250,000 children in the Denver Metro Area living below the Colorado Self-Sufficiency Standard?

Thank you, J. Kent Volunteers!

J. Kent Staffing offers its employees 2 Volunteer Days each year to support their involvement in making a difference in their community
