We recognize the significant contributions of these individuals in ensuring Denver’s offices run smoothly every day. The History of Administrative Professionals Day

The International Association of Administrative Professionals promotes National Administrative Professionals Day, which is the Wednesday of the last full week in April of each year.

The observance first launched in 1952 when the U.S. Secretary of Commerce proclaimed June 1-7 as National Secretaries Week. In that same year, June 4^th was designated National Secretaries Day. The name changed to Administrative Professionals in 2000, and the events moved to April.

Administrative Assistants Today are Much More Than the Secretaries of Yesterday

In today’s sophisticated business world, there are rarely companies who have the traditional “Receptionist” roles of the past whose roles are just to answer incoming calls and greet visitors. Administrative Assistants have fittingly transcended from yesterday’s Secretary; not in just title, but also in job responsibilities.

Over the years, administrative assistant positions have evolved and require a strong skill set. Today’s administrative professionals have solid computer and technology aptitude, organizational and multi-tasking abilities, and project management and problem-solving skills. Duties may vary greatly based on the size of the organization but – generally speaking – today’s Secretaries are both Administrative and Executive Assistants who are integral in supporting the successful workflow of the organization, from top to bottom.
