Wednesday, Apr. 22, 2020, is Administrative Professionals Day – a day dedicated to celebrating the hard work and significant contributions of all levels of administrative staff.
Ask any accomplished business executive or department manager and they’ll tell you the same thing: Their executive and administrative assistants are instrumental in ensuring their office is organized and runs smoothly. Not to mention the positive and cohesive work atmosphere that an administrative professional helps to foster and promote.
The administrative profession has evolved significantly over the decades. National Secretaries Day was first celebrated in 1952. At that time, career choices for women were limited primarily to teaching, secretarial work, and being a homemaker. With the introduction of the personal computer, the internet, email, and many more recent technologies, the business world today looks nothing like it used to.
Administrative professionals are no longer there just to fill up coffee cups and take dictation. Today’s administrative staff are highly technologically savvy, well-educated, project management-oriented, and proactive in anticipating business needs. They are an important and invaluable asset to all businesses.
