Across the state of Colorado, a powerful movement is underway—one that’s dismantling the stigma around menstruation and addressing a silent but critical need in schools: access to menstrual hygiene products. At the heart of this effort is PeriodPalooza, a grassroots initiative organized by the nonprofit Justice Necessary, dedicated to ensuring period equity for Colorado’s students.

What Is PeriodPalooza?

PeriodPalooza is far more than just a packing party—it’s a dynamic, community-driven campaign that mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to assemble one-month menstrual hygiene kits for underserved students. Each kit provides dignity, confidence, and helps ensure that no student has to miss class because of period poverty.

In 2025, Justice Necessary set out an ambitious goal: distribute over 2.5 million pads and tampons to students across 460 schools in 87 cities statewide. These efforts directly support Colorado House Bill 24-1164, a landmark piece of legislation that mandates free menstrual products in all middle and high school girls’ and gender-neutral bathrooms throughout Colorado.

To meet this goal, Justice Necessary organized four packing parties across the state—in Fort Collins, Pueblo, Grand Junction, and Colorado Springs—culminating in a major two-day event in Denver on May 23–24, 2025.

Legislative Momentum and Community Power

The event in Denver wasn’t just a flurry of action and community spirit – it was also a moment of recognition and advocacy. On May 23rd, several of Colorado’s elected officials spoke about the critical importance of House Bill 24-1164 and praised the work of Justice Necessary in combating hygiene poverty. Their presence underscored how state legislation and grassroots activism can work hand in hand to drive meaningful change.

Powered by Volunteers

More than 400 volunteers participated in the Denver event alone, including support from local businesses and organizations. Among them was Kara Cooper, Vice President of Recruiting & Staffing at J. Kent Staffing, who joined the effort on the ground.

J. Kent Staffing also hired 10 employees to support the event setup and operations—each one playing an integral role in ensuring a smooth and impactful experience for all involved. Their contributions helped make the event a standout success.
