On April 3, 2025, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a new edition of the Form I-9.
What are the Key Updates?

Renaming the fourth checkbox in Section 1 to “An alien authorized to work”

Revising the descriptions of two List B documents in the Lists of Acceptable Documents

Adding appropriate statutory language and a revised DHS Privacy Notice to the instructions
When Do Employers Need to Start Using the New Form?
The revised Form I-9 with an edition date of 1/20/2025 and an expiration date of 5/31/2027 is now available for download and use. The previous editions remain valid until their respective expiration dates:

Form I-9 (8/1/2023 edition) is valid until 5/31/2027

Form I-9 (8/1/2023 edition) is valid until 7/31/2026. Employers using this edition in an electronic system must update their system with the 5/31/2027 expiration date by July 31, 2026.
