Denver’s Minimum Wage Could Increase to $13.80 Effective Jan. 1, 2020
In 2019, through HB19-1210, the Colorado legislature gave local governments the power to set citywide minimum wages at a higher rate than the statewide minimum wage. No city in Colorado has taken advantage of this rule, but Denver could be the first to do so come January. In September, Mayor Hancock and Councilwoman Kniech proposed a bill to be voted on by Denver’s City Council in November following extensive public engagement beforehand. This bill would increase …

Technology has helped pave the way for this, but the increasing need to both attract and retain top talent requires companies to consider changing their ways in terms of offering both flexible schedules and remote work options. An Accountemps poll found that 52% of employees thought flexible schedules were the best perk a company could offer, and 27% thought that early leave on Fridays was the best. The desire for work-life balance is strong with employees, especially with …

Have you ever stumbled across or met with a great candidate for your company, but didn’t hire them because you didn’t have a current opening? In today’s continued tight candidate market, many companies are actively embracing a new strategy of stockpiling those core, talented candidates who are hard to find when they need them. This approach generally applies to specialized or higher skilled candidates in fields such as in information technology, social media, engineering, and accounting – where worker shortages have led to prolonged searches and lost revenue. …

Voting Leave (Colorado Law) and Politics in the Workplace
Fortunately, there are many options available today on how and when to vote (mail-in ballot is my personal favorite). But, as we all know, some people just like to head to the voting centers on Election Day and then proudly display their “I VOTED” sticker on their lapel. Employers can encourage - but not require - employees to vote using a certain method, but they can mandate the hours the employee takes off to minimize the disruption to the workplace. So, for those employees who prefer to vote in person on Election Day, it’s important for Colorado employers to know the la …

Starting Salaries on the Rise for New Bachelor Degrees
Congratulations to the Class of 2018! Starting Salaries on the Rise for New Bachelor Degrees As Denver Recruiters, J. Kent Staffing has a strong niche of placing new grads into professional jobs. Good timing is certainly on their side with the favorable hiring climate and unemployment numbers at record lows, making it difficult for companies to find available talent. Many of us remember the very opposite in 2009, when eager grads with normally very marketable degrees found themselves moving back in with mom and dad and working a restaurant job just to make ends meet. I also rem …

Don't Forget About the "I" in D&I
D&I = Diversity & Inclusion Most companies today understand both the benefits and importance of recruiting and hiring a diverse workforce that includes a range of ages, ethnicities, religions, social classes, physical abilities, and political and world views. But, once you have the diversity piece down, it’s critical for management to ensure the right culture is in place that promotes, supports, and encourages all employees – from top to bottom – to be aware of the inclusion side of the D&I formula.   In …
